Real Estate Agents in Iowa

COLDWELL BANKER HEDGES CAN HELP YOU COMPLETE THE TRAINING AND EDUCATION NEEDED TO BECOME A CERTIFIED REALTOR!

Pre-License Education
A real estate license is required to practice real estate in Iowa. Before applying for your license, a 60-hour pre-license course is required. This course can be taken on-line or in a classroom setting. There are classes offered in both Cedar Rapids and Iowa City. Along with the 60-hours of pre-licensing, a candidate must successfully complete the following courses:

  • 12 hours of Developing Professionalism and Ethical Practices,
  • 12 hours of Buying Practices and
  • 12 hours of Listing Practices.

This course work must be completed during the 12 months prior to the license application. These four courses can be taken in any order. After completing the course, you must pass the national and state of Iowa’s real estate exams.

With the signature of your broker, you may then apply to the state for your license. Once you receive your license, you can practice real estate as a licensed assistant or as a sales associate. As a licensed assistant, you would work as an independent contractor under the guidance of a sales associate. As a sales associate, you would operate as an independent contractor under the umbrella of a real estate broker. Real estate sales associates are paid on a commission basis.
