Practice makes perfect, and you’ll be in good form for any unexpected zombie infestations in Cedar Rapids, Iowa with a little paintball practice this fall. There are nighttime training sessions available at our local paintball park. Of course, sometimes the best course of action when encountering a zombie is to lose them in a confusing network of paths, and a corn maze provides great practice. We have a lot of them. Along with the paintball park and corn mazes, there are plenty of family friendly activities on the farms and nature centers that should be completely zombie-free. Corn Mazes on Local Farms
Bass Family Farms: The admission price for the Fall Festival 2022 at Bass Family Farms in Mount Vernon, Iowa is $8 on weekdays and $10 on weekends. Your admission price includes all the fun on the farm: jumping pad, slingshots, tire playground, pumpkin bowling, hayrides, 18 hole mini golf, and the corn maze. Let the fun begin!
Bart’s Farm & Pumpkin Patch: This small family-friendly farm in Marion, Iowa offers hayrides for $2, horse rides for $7 and a smaller corn maze challenge for $3. This is a great place to pick up your holiday pumpkins and gourds and enjoy a little fresh farm air with some fun activities for the kids. The farm also offers commercial and residential property fall decorating services with the pumpkins from the farm (the service includes disposal on request).
Bloomsbury Farm: The Harvest Festival at this Atkins, Iowa farm features a 10 acre corn maze and over 20 additional seasonal attractions on weekends from September 30th-October 30th, 2022. Admission is $15.95 online and $19.95 at the gate. Your admission includes the 10 acre corn maze. Attractions include pig races, duck races, beeline mini zip, jumping pillow, pumpkin bowling, and The Slaughterhouse (a haunted house).
Haunted Houses
Scream Acres: Bloomsbury Farm offers a little extra excitement for heartier souls looking for Halloween chills. Scream Acres is a 4-part haunting experience. It includes The Slaughterhouse (part of the Harvest Festival) and three additional frightening experiences at Cell Block Z, the Haunted Corn Maze, and 3D Sinister Silo. A beer garden is available for the 21+ crowd. Admission is $36.95 online and $43.95 at the gate.
KW Paintball Zombie Shoot: Nothing says Halloween better than a good old fashioned paintball zombie shoot. And when you find the perfect home in Cedar Rapids you will be a short 60+mile drive north to the nighttime fun. Visitors ride on custom trailers through the paintball park 7:00pm-10pm on Friday and Saturday nights until the end of October. $15 buys you a ride and 100 paintballs. $5 will get you an extra 100 paintballs (there are a lot of zombies, you might need to reload).
Trick-or-Treat
Wickiup Fall Fest: The Wickiup Hill Learning Center in Linn County is celebrating its 11th annual Wickiup Fall Fest on Saturday, October 29th, 2022. The event is $5 for children and runs from 10:00am-12:00pm. This is geared toward 3 to 10 year olds and includes a friendly trick-or-treat through the woods and pumpkin bowling.
There are a wide variety of events throughout the year at the center. There is a “Science for Squirts: The Great Pumpkins” program for children ages 3-6. Participants will search for hidden pumpkins on the trails while learning how animals prepare for winter. There are adult programs too. This December they will be holding a snowshoe building course for adults. Attendance at all three lacing sessions is recommended for best results, walking through the snow with sub-par snowshoes isn’t very fun. Build them right the first time. Once you’ve perfected the art you can build snowshoes for the whole family and enjoy the trails around your Cedar Rapids home in style when the snow falls (and it will fall).
